Welcome to Hunter Golec's Personal Page
Thank you for taking the time to visit my personal fundraising page to benefit Akron Children’s Hospital.
For those of you that don't know, I am a cancer survivor. When I was 3 years old I was diagnosed with Lymphoma. The cancer was located in my right tonsil. Under the care of my amazing oncologist, Dr. Steven Kuerbitz, I kicked cancer's ass! But, that isn't the end of my story. When I was 6 years old I had to have an echocardiogram done because Dr. Kuerbitz wanted to make sure my heart wasn't damaged from the chemotherapy. During the echo it was discovered that I have what is called a Right Aortic Arch with a Vascular Ring. So, what that means is that the artery coming off my heart is wrapped around my trachea and esophagus. It is a birth defect that went unnoticed until I had the echo done. Now I also see an amazing cardiologist at Akron Children's and his name is Chandrankant Patel.
I see Dr. Kuerbitz and Patel every year or two to have my blood counts checked (even though I'm considered cancer free) and to make sure nothing changed with the Aortic Arch. I am very blessed to have these wonderful doctors and their staff in my life!
Please help me help them for everything they did for me and my family and countless other children.
Thank you for your support of Akron Children’s mission and dedication to improving the health of the communities served.
As I progress in my fundraising endeavors, I hope that you check back frequently for updates and stories of patients in our communities.
